                      Second Trimester

The second trimester represents the middle part of your pregnancy, from weeks 13 to 26. For many women, one of the best things about this trimester is that nausea might begin to settle.

What to expect in the Second Trimester

                      • Ultrasound scan at 20 weeks for morphology. For this ultrasound we recommend the use of specialist sonographers and thus are done externally. We will give you the required slip to have this completed.
                      • Growth assessments in rooms at 24 and 28 weeks.
                      • 26-28 weeks blood tests- full blood count, gestational diabetes blood test (GTT). The gestational diabetes test or glucose tolerance test is a fasting blood test and takes 2 hours to complete. Three samples will be taken at 0, 60 and 120 minutes which will determine whether you have developed diabetes of pregnancy.
